  • Yesterday was my Birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday, only nothing actually happened. It was the day before that when I had my mini-party.

I din't invite any of my friends to my party, because they were probably all on vacation. My cousin, Louis and my grandma came instead. We first played with Louis but since he's a boy, and unfortunatly also Jerry's age, they were more interested in playing Transformers. After a while, it got kind of boring to just watch them so I went down and started playing piano. Then, soon after that, Grandma called Louis down to do his homework.  They made me teach him how to read his English homework and help get him to memorize it, but he still sucked at his pronunciation. He asked if we could have pizza for dinner. The grown ups said yes except for Dad. Then Grandma gave me my present. It was 1000NT and she gave me another 100NT for teaching Louis English. When my om came back from wherever she went, she brought a sponge cake with her. For a reason I don't know, Taiwan people alway say they're older than the age they would be if they llived in America. For example, I'm supposed to be 12 years old but they said I'm 14 years old. Kinda weird. And apparently when Chinese New Year comes, I'll be 15(!) years old. After we ate the cake, it was time for them to go. Louis still had school tomorrow and his mom would kill him if he missed it. We said goodbye and when they were gone Mom asked what we wanted for dinner. We told her pizza, and she actually went out and bought a pizza! We all ate as much as we could and there was still enough left for the next day, whic was my actual birthday.

The next day, when I woke up, Mom had already gone to the office and Dad was working downstairs. He told us he would have to go to the office soon and that he was leaving us at home. When he had gone, I read a couple of books, practiced piano and got really bored. When I got hungry, I went to the kitchen and warmed up the leftover pizza and shared some with Jerry. When Mom and Dad finally came home I asked why I didn't have piano class today. Mom told me it was rescheduled for tomorrow at 1:15pm-2:00pm. We read a bit before bedtime and then went to sleep.

  • Today, January 20, 2010

Today was a great day! Today was the day before winter vacation! Today we had a humongous surprise party!

Today, the only actual classes we had were first class Chinese, and even then it was half free time. Also second class Humanities, which was when we scrubbed the whole classroom floor until it was really shiny with bleach water. Oh, and also Math class, but we watched Wall-E until it was time for Closing Ceremony. It was actually halfway into 3rd period (and continued till noon quiet time) when the excitement started.
Halfway through 3rd period double Humanities when we were starting to watch Wall-E, when the 6B homeroom teacher, Ms Savanna(I think that's her name), came and knocked on our door and ordered all of us to line up in 2 lines and then go down to the multi-function room with 6B. When we got to the door of the multi-function room, the first thing the people there made us do was choose a wad of paper that had the letters A, B, or C on them. That's how they sorted us in our teams and seats. I got the C team so I sat down on the left side of the room. Group B, I think, sat in the middle of the room so they got the best view. Elysia was in the B team. Karina was in the C group with me. So were Jen, Iris, Lucy, Ivy, Jenny, Angelica, and a bunch of other girls and boys like Chu, Alex, Brian W.,... A team sat on the right side of the room. We started with an introduction about the people that made us pick teams from the wads of paper. They were from the biggest company of electronics and computers in the world. They gave a prize to the first person who raised their hand to say that they knew who they were. It was a tie. Jason and Mathew I think got the prize. Then they explained that they were here because Chu, Jonathan Chu from our class, had won 1st place in the contest they hosted, which was to design a new cartoon network computer game. I can't believe he won against all the other people who entered in all of Taiwan. Then they actually gave Chu(Giffy helped hold it) a prize that was the most high-tech computer in existence that apparently cost 100,000NT dollars!!!  It didn't need a mouse and you could move it by touching the screen like and I-touch! They brought 3 of those computers to school and then after they finished talking they let us have 2 different races against the other teams on those computers. The first one was a bowling contest. Whichever team got the most points won. My team won the bowling game, maybe because Jenny was the only person who got a strike. The second game was a game like this

                                                          abcdefghijklmnop
                                                          bcdefghijklmnopa
                                                          bcdefghijklmnopa

only it was with shapes instead of letters. When you got three in a row, it disappeared. The level was passed when you disappeared all the ones the computer wanted you to do. Whoever got the highest points won. Our team won again. It was excellent!
After that, they handed out the prizes to the winners, a hand pumped flashlight and a mousepad for some people.

Afterwards, we had lunch, which they bought from McDonalds. I was almost last in line so when I got there, there were no more McChickens so I had to get a fish hamburger instead. But otherwise my lunch was pretty much the same as everyone else's. I had a Coke, french fries with ketchup, and hamburger. I saved some of my Coke and french fries for Jerry.
After school wa s over I packed my whole cubby(or what was left of it)'s contents into my backpack, a purple bag with prizes that those people gave to everyone, and a teeny plastic bag for my smaller things. After I managed to drag everything to the playground, I found Jerry, told him off for not helping me with my stuff like Mom told him to and going off to HiLife instead, and called Mom to ask her to come get us.

  • How To Make Comics

How to make comics:

http://www.boltcity.com/workshop/copper_tutorial/index.html

This website is about how Kazu Kibuishi made the comic book Copper, Amulet, and stuff. It's actually really interesting. It shows how you an example of how to make a comic like Copper or Amulet. Making a comic, like in this website, is probably more complicated than this website makes it look so if you want to make a comic you best be prepared. There are three steps in the process of making a comic but they all need complicated tools like a Sanford Col-Erase blue pencil for the first step, a 03 Staedtler Pigment Liner pen, Hunt no. 102 Crow Quill nib pen, and/or Alvin Penstix .7 mm marker pen for the second step, and a flatbed scanner... and lots of other things

  • My New Year

My New Year At Taipei

On Thursday, after school, when Jerry and I were picked up by Mom and Dad, we learned that we were going to the Taipei 101 to watch the fireworks at midnight. We were so excited when we got to Taipei and even when we went directly to my grandma's house. We were supposed to leave at I think 6:00~7:00pm but Dad, the driver, accidently fell asleep so the trip was canceled and we decided to watch it on TV instead. At 11:00pm, it became clear that no one except Jerry and I, would be around to watch the fireworks so I turned on the computer. I chatted on gmail with Caitlin and Lucy for a while and  then watched Youtube for a while. Just then I heard fireworks and rushed out to the porch to see. They were beautiful but I only saw a few. We made so much noise yelling that it was New Year, that we woke Mom up and she came out and told us it was time for bed. We climbed into bed but whispered to each other for a while, just to annoy the grown ups until they threatened to make us stand outside for the rest of the night.

  • The News this Week

This week there's not much news but there are some events soon...

The Christmas Concert:
This year's Christmas Concert is on December 23, in the gym, and it should be really fun. 6A and 6B will be singing Jingle Bell Rock. Last year's concert was really great. I especially liked 4B's peformance which was acting and singing The Twelve Days of Christmas, except they adjusted the words to stuff like: a brand new name for our school(IBSH), 4 candy canes, etc.

Christmas:
We all have a lot to prepare before December 25 like putting up the Christmas tree, decorating the house, getting the Christmas spirit and especially, wrapping presents! Can you belive I have 44 presents to wrap and that's only the minimum? Jerry only has 16 and he's already complaining! I've already finished wrapping 11 but I still have a lot. I should have started wrapping a month ago, I don't know what's gotten into me...

My Recital:
My recital is on December 27, but I hope not too many people come so if I
embarrass myself there won't be too many people. I'm going to play a little of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, My Favorite Day, and last, Joy to the World. I'm really nervous because I have to memorize Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and My Favorite Day.

  • Thanksgiving Party

On Wednesday, we had our class thanksgiving party. It was really yummy.

The first thing we did when we got to school on Wednesday, though, was go to the flag ceremony. They told us our field trip had been canceled(groan) because of the h1n1, that we should still enjoy our Thanksgiving party, and that we won a contest of the school. We got an award and had to climb up the 4 flights of stairs, back to the classroom, only to climb back down for Chinese class. Our teacher announced that due to the fact that there's a spreading h1n1, our contest has been canceled but is still going to be held privately in our classroom on Tuesday!

After that, we had 2 more classes before homeroom hour. During homeroom hour we rearranged the desks to make it more fun. Halfway when we were getting the desks straightened out, the food arrived! We had pizza, chicken/turkey and soda. I got a cup of Sprite and 2 slices of cheese and pepperoni pizza. Then Mom and Dad showed up and I didn't know what they were supposed to do so they went off to check on Jerry. When I finished my pepperoni and cheese, I went back for more but by that time, most of the pizza was gone and so I only got a small slice ofmushroom olive pizza and a cup of fizzy orange juice. After lunch we had regular classes again and those were mostly boring so I won't talk about it. After that we went home.
